Built for the high latitudes and some of the most trying oceans conditions you may encounter, they are also sleek and fast. The sail plan has been created specifically for long distance cruising. The Xc 50 is also easily sailed short-handed, with under-deck halyards led aft to self-tailing winches (including electric primary winch already installed with all other winches pre-wired) and a secure central console.  At first glance, this magnificent vessel, which we first encountered docked at Whangarei Marina, revealed herself to be nothing short of a head-turner. Gleaming with her just-polished gelcoat and multitude of stainless steel deck fittings (even the anchor controls are stainless steel, as are all the winches..), reinforced glass wind shield, strong davits and top quality running rigging tidily coiled or invisible, quite simply looked like the ultimate luxury yacht.  However, this Xc 50 is not just beautiful to behold, she hides, beneath her graceful lines the strength and qualities of a very serious extreme explorer. This is for this reason that this French family with two young children decided on this model after years of research and experience as professional sailors. This was for many reasons the best boat for their planned journey, which took them from France to the antipodes over 27,000 nautical miles, across some of the wildest oceans of the world,  deep into the 40's and 50's latitudes, across the Atlantic, the windy canals of Patagonia, into the Pacific and across to New Zealand over a two year period.  One of the most interesting features of the X-Cruising model is the reinforced structure of the boat, which is built around a heavy galvanized steel frame on which the keel is directly bolted (unlike standard boats which attach it to a simple keel reinforcement). The forces exerted by the keel are therefore no longer distributed over a small area of the hull (a few square decimetres) but over a structure of several 10 square metres, itself surrounded by the hull. The mast and standing rigging are also directly attached to this steel structure. Unlike other boats where the mast is held by the rigging attached to the hull reinforcements, the cap shrouds are attached to the frame and only pass through the living structures (deck). X-Yachts' own system offers very high rigidity to the rigging and greater safety. "Gaia" is a heavier boat than the production boats, but its inertia in the formed seas is precisely what is needed for the type of exploration. It is heavier, but it is not slow. She doesn't surf for long, but you don't risk pitch-poling while surfing uncontrollably. She has no bad habits. She doesn't slam. It combines all the modern features of a boat designed in a spirit of tranquility, while respecting the very important rules of stability, safety and durability on the ocean, which unfortunately is becoming increasingly difficult to find in today's shipbuilding industry. Unlike the Xp models, which put more emphasis on a lighter and more powerful sailboat, the Xc is really designed to conquer the far reaches of the ocean. The keel, sturdy and with a ballast ratio appropriate to cruising, is short enough at 2.35m  deep to allow you to tuck into lagoons, while her hull shape provides very good pointing ability and exceptional handling, which is further enhanced by her bow thruster should you need to manoeuvre into a tight marina berth. Together this family experienced some adventures that few can dream about, and this boat, as she is now, fully quipped and ready to continue on her way, is your chance to inherit not just the outstanding design and building skills of the X-Yacht team, but also the numerous upgrades and little but significant modifications which the owners made to further improve the design around their need for a boat that could be single handed, controlled no matter what the weather Gods threw at them, anchored in some of the most trying terrain in the world, safe and comfortable for their family no matter where they were, independent and able to run for long periods in complete autonomy, equipped with everything you could possible need to step aboard today and make her your home, as well as drop the lines and sail anywhere in the world at a moment's notice. For more info please check our Youtube Channel (Nautilus Yacht Management). We have made two videos of this beautiful boat: The Voyage of 'Gaia'. 27,000 nautical miles from France to New Zealand via Patagonia, which will give you an idea of the incredible journey they have just completed, and a second video which is more focused around the boat and her presentation as she is today, immaculate and waiting for you.  It is hard to believe that this extraordinary boat has so many miles beneath her keel and was the home of this family for over 2 years.. We simply could not fault her.  Located at Whangarei Marina, amongst other cruising families from the all over the world, 'Gaia' and her owners are on board and available with a little notice to meet you and show you through the boat. This boat was never chartered and was sailed by three cruising families in succession, who meticulously maintained and upgraded her. She was commissioned in 2008 and delivered to Florida for her first owners, a retired couple who cruised her gently between the US and the Bahamas until 2014 when she was purchased by a family with young children who then explored the South Pacific for 3 years. Her current owners, also with young children (the youngest was a few days old when they moved on board) have followed in Ponyo's previous family's footsteps and cruised extensively between New Zealand and Fiji. They are now back in New Zealand where they are now offering the boat for sale as they have just purchased a larger catamaran. During their time on Ponyo, they continuously upgraded and perfected this lovely boat, which is presented in remarkable condition and fully ready for you to begin your own cruising adventures. Ponyo is a happy boat, fresh, clean, delightfully presented, and with all the usual suspects taken care of: the rigging was replaced, the sails were purchased in 2017, all new hull fittings throughout, new watermaker, etc. etc. This boat is ready to sail on with nothing to spend. Kept in immaculate condition, with hardly any noticeable wear and tear either inside or outside, it is hard to believe that this yacht has been the home of two young families for the past 5 years, keeping them safe and comfortable no matter the weather and length of the voyage.  Then again, having sold quite a few Fontaine Pajots over the years with similar ocean miles under their intelligently designed hulls, we are once again impressed at the ease with which these yachts cross oceans. This Lavezzi 40 four cabin version, never chartered, in such great condition and with such extensive upgrades is a rare find. Ponyo is a big, comfortable boat, well suited to life on board. The amount of storage is remarkable, as well as her multitude of portholes and hatches, which provide abundance of light and ventilation, which is complimented if you want extra comfort with the 2 separate reverse cycle air conditioning systems. Spending winter in cold NZ won’t be a problem, nor would be summer in the tropics. The headroom is 6.4+ throughout, even in the forward cabins. Designed on a indoor-outdoor flow, the cockpit and saloon become one huge relaxation and entertaining area when the sliding door is open, with almost level access to steerage, which many find better than the larger catamaran's turret' ' type cockpit, often exposing the skipper to the elements and making communication and companionship difficult when in the sea way.  With 530L water tanks as well as its ultra-efficient  60l / h water maker, there is no need to rush to port or shorten showers. Designed to remain 'off the grid' for as long as possible, the boat can provide for its own power and water needs, thanks to its 850 Watt solar panels, huge battery bank and a 6kwa generator.  Basically handed over with everything you need to start your cruising life now, the huge inventory also includes a vast array of tools and spare parts. For more information or to organise an inspection please contact our friendly team at Nautilus Yacht Management. We would be delighted to assist you in every way and to help you make your cruising dream come true. Our agency specialises in high-quality cruising yachts and is very involved with the cruising community. '------------------- 'Roxanne' is a 60’ aluminum-hulled cruiser with fiberglass / foam composite deck and carbon fiber hard dodger designed for speed and comfortable passages. When the vessel was a developing concept designer Tom Wylie asked the owner what he wanted in a boat. The answer: “A fast, fun boat with no bad habits!” She indeed embodies those traits and, after 23 years of cruising and living aboard, the owner’s not-so-skilled-at-sailing wife can also add this: “What I like most about 'Roxanne' is her forgiving response to my sailing lapses.” Built to be a full-time floating home for the owners and their two sons, Roxanne has been sailed extensively and rapidly throughout the north and south Pacific since departing San Francisco in 2000. Before she departed in 2000, she made her first blue water passage in the 1998 Pacific Cup, when her owner and one other crew member raced her from San Francisco to Hawaii and missed beating the double-handed record, which still stands in 2019, by less than 30 minutes. What you’ll notice first are her clean lines with reverse sheer, stylish hull side windows, hard dodger with open/close canvas top and roomy cockpit. Even when she’s not moving, she looks fast! Give her wind, though, and she slices through the water and makes swift passages averaging 200 nautical miles per day.In the experts' opinion this yacht ticks all the boxes for the perfect boat.  Read on for the full description and for more information please contact our friendly team at Nautilus Yacht Management.
