56-65 Maylea is a stunning example of a late model 56, featuring the latest G5 styling, modern flowing lines and sleek looks both outside and in. Cutter rigged with electric in-mast furling, electric furling headsails, electric primary and mainsheet winches, and additional spinnaker package, Maylea is great for short-handed bluewater sailing. Extensively refitted by Oyster in 2019 and consistently maintained by a very conscientious owner ever since, she really stands out in the brokerage fleet. Works included the complete removal and reapplication of all antifouling, full rig inspection with servicing and replacement as necessary, rudder servicing, propellor works, new batteries, new main and kedge anchor, tank cleaning, upgraded internet connectivity and new exterior cushions throughout, to name a few.  

Below deck, she is finished in warm maple interior, which are juxtaposed perfectly against the striking black and silver furnishings. With eight berths in four cabins, Maylea is fantastically versatile and perfectly equipped with a long list of equipment that makes extended trips onboard effortless.  

Currently based in a marina in Genoa, Italy, she is in a fantastic cruising ground and is ready to go sailing. Early viewing is highly recommended.

HULL NUMBER - Oyster 56/65.

HULL CONSTRUCTION - Moulded in GRP from female moulds built by Oyster, with a balsa core for strength and insulation. Hull and deck mouldings are produced using a Lloyd’s approved gelcoat and laminating resin. On the hull the gelcoat is a special Isophthalic resin and the outer laminates incorporate a vinylester resin and powder-bound matts. This combination provides exceptional UV, weathering and water resistance properties.
In load bearing areas the core is replaced with plywood for additional strength, and all load-bearing fittings have aluminium backing plates.
Construction is designed in accordance to the new G5 styling, providing more modern flowing lines, setting new industry standards with sleek looks both outside and in, whilst maintaining the Oyster trademark and reputation for a light and airy deck saloon.

HULL FINISH -  ‘White’ hull with cove line and double boot top lines in standard Oyster ‘Blue.’
Superstructure professionally cleaned by Oyster (2019). Hull professionally waxed (August 2022).
Antifouling removed, application of two coats Interprotect and three coats Micron Extra EU. Re-antifouled two coats, 3 coats on waterline (July 2022).
Cathodic protection (anodes) replaced, including Frigoboat refrigeration anodes (November 2019).

DECK CONSTRUCTION - Moulded in GRP with balsa core.

DECK FINISH Teak decks, laid using 48mm wide (approximately) teak planking, quarter sawn planks with no visible fastenings, laid on epoxy glue. Planking is nibbed into the king plank and the decking is installed with margin boards around hatches, dorade vents, cabin sides and all major deck fittings.
Sidedecks, forward and aft coachroof, cockpit seats, sole and helmsman’s seat are trimmed with laid teak.
All decks professionally cleaned by Oyster (2019).
Bulwark finished with teak capping rail and stainless steel fairleads. The hull to deck connection is achieved by the deck sitting on a return flange moulded into the hull.
This forms a raised bulwark. The hull and deck are joined with mechanical fastening as well as a GRP bond between the flanges. In addition, a varnished teak caprail is mechanically fastened through the flange at the end to give additional strength.
The deck edge incorporates three pairs of internal scupper drains, which allow the deck to be washed off without staining the topsides.

KEEL -  High performance bulb (HPB) external lead keel. Standard deep draft. The ballast keel is a lead casting with approximately 2% antimonial hardening externally bolted to the GRP keel stub with Nickel Aluminium Bronze (NAB) bolts.

RUDDER - Fully protected skeg-hung rudder.

STERN DESIGN - The stern design incorporates a platform instep, which is specially useful for bathing and boarding and is trimmed with teak slats, plus additional hand cut-outs. This area includes a fold-down stainless steel bathing/boarding ladder with teak treads, additional stainless steel grab handles for access to the transom, and two stainless steel steps for access to the stern deck. The ladder is fitted with a lanyard and
retaining pin for retrieval/stowage.

EURCD - Built to comply with the requirements for Category A – Ocean.



ANCHOR - 48kg (105lb) Mantus anchor, plus Mantus S3 swivel - new (August 2021) that stows in the stemhead fitting.
60m (197’), plus additional added 40m (131’) (100m/328’ in total) of 12mm calibrated galvanised chain, matched to the windlass, fastened at its ‘bitter end’ to a through-bolted padeye with substantial lanyard. Anchor shackle connection - new (2019).

Fortress FX55 14.5kg (32lb) anchor, with 10m x 10mm chain and 100m x 20mm warp - new (August 2021).
Recessed locker within the foredeck for anchor chain stowage, fitted with hinged lids and stainless steel clamp type locking devices. Anchor locker partitioned at forward end for anchor locker for kedge warp and chain stowage.

WINDLASS - Lewmar V4 vertical capstan type (24V) electric anchor windlass is installed on deck, so that the anchor chain will stow in a chain locker forward. The windlass is two-way and operated by adjacent foot switch controls - new (2019).

Side rails extended to create additional handhold suitable for using from side decks. The hood incorporates see-through panels in its forward portion, and is sized to give protection to the companionway and forward occupants of the cockpit.

DECK PLUMBING - Hot and cold freshwater deck shower in transom locker.

COCKPIT - Teak-laid cockpit, self-draining through three 38mm (1.5”) diameter cockpit drains.
The cockpit pedestal incorporates the engine start/stop controls, single lever gear and throttle shift control, a compass, lighting controls, bow thruster joystick controls and a custom installed chart plotter. There is an S.S. crashbar over the top of the compass. Additional stainless steel double mug holders are located at pedestal, and at starboard side of companionway.
A pair of waterproof loudspeakers are mounted within the coamings either side of the pedestal.
Instrument repeaters are installed on a dark acrylic panel mounted on a GRP console that is integral to the companionway hatch garage.

COCKPIT TABLE - A solid varnished, teak-topped, cockpit table is permanently installed in a robust stainless steel frame. A hinged lid gives access to a GRP insulated icebox within.

STEERING -  Whitlock ‘Athena’ steering pedestal, incorporating a 1200mm diameter stainless steel wheel and friction brake. The steering wheel is covered with brown suede leather, which extends to partially cover the spokes.
The rudder has a substantial GRP blade, foam filled, bonded to a solid stainless steel rudder stock. This is fitted to a substantial protective skeg, which includes stainless steel reinforcement. The bottom pintle is attached by way of a through bolted bronze heel casting. The rudder tube incorporates top and bottom bearings.
The top of the rudder stock terminates at deck level and is covered by a screw-in stainless steel deckplate. This facilitates the use of an emergency tiller in stainless steel from a usable position on deck. Stowage for the tiller is provided within the lazarette locker.The steering quadrant is protected within the lazarette locker with an easily removable access panel to facilitate routine maintenance.

DAVITS -  Cooney S225 manual davits (225kg maximum total load), complete with belly bands, and dinghy locator kit. Steel cables and various parts replaced (August 2021).

Lazarette locker - central, flush GRP deck hatch with hinged lid and drain channels, rubber seal and positive closing, gives access to a full width, large lazarette locker.
For ease of handling a pair of stainless steel gas struts are fitted to the lid.
At the aft end of the coachroof there are two built-in, self-draining deck stowage lockers suitable both for the stowage of deck gear.

GENERAL - Eight berths in fours cabins, excluding the saloon, with 2 heads and showers. All sea berths have fitted Dacron lee screens with lanyards to through-bolted eyes.
Designed to be modern and coordinated, whilst remaining practical and durable at sea. Essential features include sculpted fiddles and grab rails, ‘shadow-gap’ joints between panels and Oyster custom knobs for lockers and drawers.
Interior joinery finished in maple, with Oyster ‘Millennium’ styling.
Cabin sole with maple V-groove sole boards. These are removable and are fitted with flush lifting rings and machine screws into captive inserts, as appropriate.
Board edges are flush-fitted and sealed with epoxy and the boards seat on a rubber gasket.
The companionway steps are finished with gloss varnish and a non-slip coating to provide a secure foot-hold and added durability.
Solid ‘framed’ doors with black inlaid border, and chrome hinges and handles.
Galley work surfaces and galley countertops in Avonite ‘Argent’ satin finish.

Exposed hull and deck surfaces are lined, principally with fabric-covered ply panels, which are demountable for access.
Lockers in the saloon, hanging lockers and all upper lockers in cabins are timberlined with removable outboard panels vinyl covered. Lockers are fitted with shelves and fiddles as appropriate.
Insides of upper lockers in heads and galley are ‘white’ mica laminate. Lower lockers are ‘white’ Flocoat.
The heads compartments incorporate white moulded GRP lower tray and plinth units, for ease of cleaning after showering, and for hygiene.
Upholstery for the saloon settees, headboards, berth surrounds and navigator’s seat in Alcantara, colour ‘Black’ which is an extremely durable, man-made suede material.
Upholstery for berths are made in Planada ‘Charcoal’ fabric. Mattress covers are buttoned and fitted with a zippered side opening and rot-resistant vinyl on the underside.
All drawers use metal runners, which give extremely smooth operation.
Exposed internal surfaces above sole level are coated with off-white Flocoat. Engine room the bilges are coated with ‘Grey’ Flocoat. All other accessible bilge areas are coated with Blakes ‘Grey’ bilge paint. All unseen woodwork, including headliner battens, backs of furniture, etc., is sealed with ‘Grey paint’ or varnish.
Curtain system to windows in all cabins, colour ‘Silver’ and blinds in the saloon.
Oceanair skyscreens to all deck hatches. 3 x Oceanair screens - new (2019).
Removable flyscreens to Gebo ports. 

FORWARD DOUBLE CABIN - Accessed via the forward passageway or via the deck forehatch.
Spacious double cabin in the bows, with centreline double berth, upholstered seat with vanity table, plentiful lockers and a hanging locker (cedar-lined).

Aft of the standard forecabin, to port, is a cabin with upper and lower berths, lockers for clothes, a vanity unit and hanging locker (cedar-lined).

The forward cabins share a large WC compartment to starboard, accessed from the passageway. Featuring a VacuFlush electric toilet - serviced and parts replaced as necessary (2019), Hansgrohe quality mixer taps, washbasin, separate shower stall, together with matching towel rail, pair of toothbrush holders, soap dish, toilet roll holder and a mirror.

NAVIGATION AREA - The chart area is at the aft end of the saloon with a forward facing seat.
This area is customised around the electronics and navigational instrumentation, which is strategically sited and flush mounted in a ‘Black’ Alcantara fascia.
The chart table has a small support stay fitted to the lid, and can accommodate half folded size Admiralty charts.
Stowage for navigational books and almanacs are provided on a bookshelf outboard of this.
AC and DC electrical panels are located behind the navigator’s seat.

SALOON -  The saloon is extremely light and airy with seven windows, of which two of the three forward ones open. In addition there are two opening hull ports.
Featuring an oval table and settee area to port, outboard of which are a pair of lockers and a central shelf to the hullport. A flatscreen TV is placed on the forward bulkhead.
The saloon table is designed to form, in its closed position, an occasional table, which is mounted on a very substantial pedestal incorporating a bottle locker in its base. The table top is a veneered panel with solid timber edging. This table then opens to form an oval dining table.
Two folding alloy framed director’s chairs with special stowage provision under the saloon settee, provide extra in-harbour seating at the table or even on deck.
To starboard is a two-seater settee, with a large locker forward, which houses the washer/dryer.
A drinks locker with automatic door light is located at forward starboard end of saloon, to accommodate bottle and glasses stowage.
Access to the saloon from the companionway is down a set of shaped timber and stainless steel steps. Two timber grab handles are fitted either side of the companionway opening.
Incorporated into the boat are grabrails at the companionway, the saloon deckhead and other locations appropriate to the layout, to give secure handholds when moving through the yacht.

WASHER/DRYER -  Bosch washer/dryer in forward starboard saloon cupboard. 

GALLEY -  The galley is located to port of the cockpit, in the companionway to the aft cabin.
Panels here give access to the engine compartment.
An oilskin hanging locker is built into the aft end of the engine room space.
Avonite galley work surfaces with upstands, and stainless steel basin inserts.
A large rubbish bin is fitted inside a locker door adjacent to twin stainless steel sinks.
Stowage is provided for the standard crockery, cutlery, utensils, and glasses.
Custom stowage is provided in the form of four side-by-side lockers, hinged on aft edge. The forward lower locker housing an ice maker with two pull out baskets above, and the two aft two lockers featuring a fixed mid-height shelf.

SINKS -  Twin stainless steel sinks.

COOKER/HOB -  Gimballed Force 10 FT63451 cooker in stainless steel, with 4 burners, grill and oven is fitted, all protected by a flame failure gas cut-off device. The cooker incorporates an electronic ignition system for all functions. A heavy gauge fiddle rail is fitted around the top of the cooker, which incorporates a pair of adjustable clamping panholders.
A harbour lock and cooker crashbar are fitted and the cooker is housed in a moulded GRP surround with radiused corners for ease of cleaning.
For additional safety an electric gas solenoid valve controls the gas flow from the bottle and is operated remotely by a neon switch near the cooker. A fire blanket is fitted above the inboard counter.

Stainless steel front-opening frigerator cooled by a Frigomatic 24V (keel-cooled) system. An automatic door light is fitted within the refrigerator.
Top opening freezer box cooled by a Frigomatic 24V (water-cooled) W50 twin compressor refrigeration system, with twin plates. This can be run as a refrigerator or freezer. Small stainless steel support strut fitted to lid.
Fridge regassed and system upgraded (May 2022).
Freezer compressors, circulation pump and LCD displays replaced (2019).
Both boxes are fitted with drains plumbed to the bilge area.

DISHWASHER -  Fisher and Paykel single dishwasher drawer.

WATER FILTER -  Seafresh water purifying charcoal filter system on galley cold water supply. 

ENGINE ROOM - The engine room is insulated with a composite of foam and highdensity polymer sound absorbing materials, with an overall panel thickness of 40mm. The engine room access is via removable panels. All access panels are fitted with rubber sealing strips to minimise noise and secured by positive catches.
The engine room has 24v lighting and a 24v extractor fan, switched at the DC electrical panel, and and an automatic fire extinguisher with a remote indicator light.
The engine bearers form a self-contained sump to contain and prevent any oil spillage running into the main bilge area. Limber tubes run through the sump to enable any bilge water from the aft part of the yacht to run forward into the main bilge sump.

STARBOARD AFT TWIN CABIN - Situated aft of the saloon to starboard, with upper and lower berths and lockers located throughout.
On the aft bulkhead is a locker for the watermaker controls.

OWNER’ S STATEROOM -  The aft cabin is configured with a double berth offset from the centreline, a curved settee, dressing table and a large hanging locker, with abundant drawer and locker space.
From this cabin there is access to the aft toilet and shower to starboard, also through to the galley to port.

EN SUITE HEAD/SHOWER Situated to starboard and accessed via the owner’s stateroom.
Featuring a VacuFlush electric toilet - serviced and parts replaced as necessary (2019), Hansgrohe quality mixer taps, washbasin, separate shower stall, together with matching towel rail, pair of toothbrush holders, soap dish, toilet roll holder and a mirror.

ENGINE -  A Yanmar 4LHA-HTP 4-cylinder diesel engine of 118kW (160 HP) at 3300 RPM is fitted.
Engine fully serviced (2019), periodically serviced (April 2022).
The gearbox is a ZF 45A unit giving a reduction of 2.5:1. A Halyard Marine exhaust water separator and GRP waterlock are installed. The engine is mounted on flexible mountings to reduce noise and vibration.
Engine and generator Racor filters parallel plumbed, so both can run off a single unit.
Instruments including alarms for low oil pressure and high water temperature, plus a rev. counter, hour meter, oil pressure and water temperature gauges are housed in a GRP moulded recess, under a perspex cover, visible in the cockpit, forward to starboard.

ENGINE HOURS - Approximately 2,850 at September 2022.

PROPELLER -  A 3-bladed 610mm (24”) diameter folding Gori folding propeller with overdrive feature is connected to the engine via a 38mm (1.5”) diameter propeller shaft, through a Bronze cast P-bracket and stern gland fitted with a remote greaser, at the aft end of the engine room.
Propeller disassembled, cleaned, lubricated and re-assembled (2019).
Cutless bearing, propeller and shaft checked (2019).
Propspeed application to shaft and propeller (2019).
‘P’ bracket rebedded (2019).

ROPE CUTTER - Ambassador AM15 rope cutter on shaft - new (2019).

ALTERNATORS Twin alternators which comprises of the following :
- Yanmar 60 Amp/12v alternator that is wired to charge the engine start batteries.
- Mastervolt high output alternator 150 Amp 24v that charges the domestic battery bank (equivalent to 300 Amps at 12v) controlled by a Mastervolt Alpha Pro Regulator.

GENERATOR - Westerbeke 7.5kW (220V/50Hz) BTD7.5 generator.
Generator serviced and parts repaired or replaced as necessary (2019).
Heat exchanger removed and serviced (August 2022).

GENERATOR HOURS -  Approximately 860 at September 2022.

BOW THRUSTER -  Max Power CT165 (11hp) tunnel bow thruster, with joystick control located at helm. Including eyebrow detail and anode.

STEERING SYSTEM -  Whitlock cable system.

WATERMAKER -  Dessalator Duo 100 watermaker (approximately 75 litres per hour) with backflush, and remote panel located in starboard aft twin cabin.
Watermaker serviced (2019).



FUEL - 950 litres approximately (210 gallons/251 US gallons) in a GRP tank installed under the port side of the deck saloon floor.
The GRP tank is treated with inert gelcoat, fitted with baffles and provided with Polyvent covers. It is filled via a remote deck filler and has an individual breather.
A Racor model 500 FG (or Separ equivalent), fuel filter and water separator is installed in addition to the standard engine filter, with a warning light at the electrical panel. This unit is designed to remove water from the fuel system by a centrifuge action. It incorporates a water trap and drain cock.

WATER -  950 litres approximately (209 Imp gallons/251 US gallons) in a a GRP tank installed under the starboard side of the deck saloon floor.

TANK TENDER GAUGES -  Tank tender monitoring system for both tanks.
Calibrated dipsticks with charts are provided as backup.

HOT WATER -  From an insulated approximately 73 litre (16 Imp gallons/19 US gallons) tank heated by the engine’s heat exchanger, or by a thermostatically-controlled 220v, 1.25kW immersion heater element powered from dockside, or via the generator.
A thermostatic safety blender valve is fitted.

Hot and cold freshwater system based on a PAR Twin Max high capacity water pump with pressure accumulator tank, and PEX/PBT pipework and fittings.
Pneumatic testing of fresh water tank (2019).
Quality Hansgrohe mixer taps in chrome, with matching, pressure balanced shower hardware, are supplied from the yacht’s hot and cold pressurised freshwater system.

HOLDING TANKS -  Two plastic HDPE (Polyethylene) toilet holding tanks are installed for each head.
There are plumbed for gravity discharge, with additional ability to pump out from deck. Each tank is fitted with Wema electric capacity gauges.
Tanks cleaned and vent pipe serviced (2019).

GREY WATER -  Showers and washbasins discharge into two sump tanks, one forward and one aft. These tanks are then evacuated by a dedicated electric Whale “Gulper” pump directly overboard. The galley sink also empties via an electric Whale “Gulper”
pump. These three pumps are each operated by waterproof rocker switches.

MANIFOLD SYSTEM -  Manifolds for seawater inlets are installed to reduce through-hull fittings. All seacocks, except the engine exhaust, are dezincification resistant (DZR) copper alloy quarter-turn ball valves with bronze through-hull fittings. The main engine exhaust has a GRP standpipe.
Seacocks serviced - visual inspection, through-hull fittings cleaned, exercised and
lubricated (2019).




RING MAIN - Mains 220v AC circuit with 6 double, 13 Amp, EU wired, Clipsal sockets, in white or beige finish, located in the saloon, aft cabin, galley, port and starboard side cabin and forward cabin.
Complete set of Schuco, UK sockets, available as replacement.

OTHER ELECTRICAL SOCKETS - 12V waterproof socket, including dropper (12A maximum) at pedestal for spotlight.
Two 10A waterproof sockets for solar panels/towed generator to charge service batteries - one located on coachroof between sprayhood track and stainless steel grabrail, and one in aft deck under starboard pushpit seat.
Additional circuit breaker (no dropper).

BATTERIES -  Domestic start: 6V (200Ah) Sonnenschein batteries - new (2019).
Engine start: 2 x 12V (88Ah) Exide gel batteries - new (2019).
Generator start: 1 x 12V (88Ah) Exide gel batteries - new (2019).
Battery box modified for retrofit installation of new batteries (2019).
All batteries are positively secured against inversion in case of a knockdown. All battery stowage areas are vented to the exterior of the vessel.

BATTERY MANAGEMENT -  Mastervolt (220V) MASS 24V/75A battery charger with temperature sensor.
Mastervolt (220V) MASS 24V/100A battery charger for shorter generator running times with bow thruster, electric winches, etc.
Mastervolt BTM1 battery monitor, and C3-RS charger controller.
Mastervolt 24V/150A Alpha Pro regulator.
Engine start to generator start battery emergency link.

INVERTER - Mastervolt (220V) 24V/2500W MASS sine inverter.

SHORE POWER -  1 x 30 Amp dockside power cable of yellow, 3-core double insulated PVC, 18.0m (60’) in length. The dockside end of the cable is fitted with a 3-pin, 16 Amp plug.
A Hubbell socket is located in the coaming.

INTERIOR LIGHTING -  46 x LED overhead downlights in polished chrome finish.
10 x Concorde ‘Anthracite’ reading lights for each berth. Starboard bedside reading lamp in owner’s stateroom - new (2019).
1 x flexible chart table light.
1 x red light at galley and chart table.
Red LED courtesy footlights at each deck saloon step.
2 x exterior dome lights in engine room.
2 x auto door lights - 1 each for refrigeration and drinks locker.
Strip lights, and downlights in each head compartment, and above galley work surfaces.
Saloon and galley lights are double-switched, and all overhead lights are remotely switched. Berth reading lights are self-switched. Aft and forward double berth cabin lights are also double-switched.

COMPASSES -  Flush-mounted SIRS Major (150mm diameter) steering compass with internal lighting and stainless steel crash bar.

AUTO PILOT -  Raymarine ST7000 automatic pilot with twin Type 2 long 24v linear drive units, Type S3G 24v course computer and ST6002 control head fitted at the pedestal. This unit is installed quite independently of the steering system and affords a back-up to the main steering system.
Raymarine SmartController wireless remote autopilot control. Battery pack - new (2019).

WINDEX -  Windex type Wind indicator at masthead.

NAVTEX -  Furuno NX300 NAVTEX receiver linked to NMEA GPS.

VHF RADIO -  Raymarine Ray 240E Class D-DSC VHF radio-telephone with masthead antenna - new (November 2019).
Second handset and speaker in cockpit. Speaker repaired (November 2019).

SSB RADIO - Icom IC-M801 SSB radio, including ATU 130, and dropper.
Wide copper strip from chart table to lazarette and twin large ground plates as SSB earth.

BILGE PUMPS -  Jabsco Utility 3000 Puppy electric bilge pump with Par hydro air switch (rated at 3,000 litres per hour). A 3-position switch is fitted to allow Off/On/Auto operation.
Henderson MkV manual bilge pump (rated at 135 litres per minute) operated from within the cockpit.
Each bilge pump is fitted with a Whale type filtered strum box.

DECK SAFETY - White Ocean Safety horseshoe lifebuoy.
Four stainless steel U-bolts for safety harness attachment in cockpit.
Jonbuoy MOB recovery module.
Emergency tiller.

FIRE EXTINGUISHERS - Various including automatic fire extinguisher in engine bay.

ALARMS -  Gas alarm.
Gas regulator is fitted with a flexible proprietary connector to the bottle. An electric fail-safe solenoid shut-off valve is installed in the gas line, within the gas bottle locker, with an illuminated, LED rocker switch to operate it fitted in the galley.

RIB/DINGHY - Avon 340 (3.4m x 1.60m) RIB (weight 81kg) with two-seater jockey console. Featuring fabricated lifting eyes, stainless steel strops, belly bands, and a Dyneema safety strop.
Honda 20hp outboard engine with electric start and power tilt.
Tender and outboard fully serviced, with parts replaced as necessary (2019).
Bosch AGM 60amp start battery - new (August 2022).
