History

BORKUMRIFF II is the second in a legendary series of traditionally styled sailing superyachts commissioned by passionate German schooner enthusiast and merchant banker Bill von Finck, and the first of two BORKUMRIFFs to be designed by Dutchman, Henk Lunstroo (1936 - 2011).

After a sound grounding as a shipbuilding engineer, and a period as a designer and draughtsman with G. de Vries Lentsch, from 1961 Lundstroo developed a reputation to his own account for beautiful looking and engineered yachts, many of them drawing aesthetic inspiration from the past. The combination of Lunstroo's renowned attention to detail, von Finck's wealth and their combined passion resulted in two of the finest schooners afloat: BORKUMRIFF II (Lübbe Voss,1982) and BORKUMRIFF III (Royal Huisman, 1994).

On the commissioning of BORKUMRIFF III, BORKUMRIFF II became well-known and continued to be meticulously run through the 1990s as ADELITA and has subsequently been named THURAYA and LADY THURAYA until the recent restoration of her original name.

She enjoyed a major 2008-2009 refit, and the more recent significant refit is detailed above.

GENERAL - UNDERWATER WORKS
1. Hull sand blasted (SA 2.5), coated, primed and new antifouling
2. Propeller shaft: bearing changed, propeller 3% lighter
3. Anchor chains replaced with stainless steel chains

GENERAL - HULL ABOVE WATER
1. Full paint job (black and off-white); Awlgrip paint system
2. All wooden decoration removed and repainted
3. Small steelworks done under the bow-sprit
4. Capping rails and wood works varnished

RIGGING
1. All rigging removed, inspected and all parts in need of repair or replacement handled
2. Masts, booms and gaffs painted high-gloss white (Awlgrip paint-system)
3. 1 furl renewed; 1 furl overhauled
